ARCHI- ALIVE – Annual Event 2018-19

Date: 5th January 2019

The day fifth of “Archi-Alive” was Cultural Programme. The programme was conducted in Shri Datta Meghe Auditorium on 5th January 2019. The Chief Guest for the programme was Hon’ble Mrs Vrinda Sameer Meghe,(Advisor Meghe Group of Institution) & Ms,Akansha Mishra (Founder Samprati Foundation) .The event was started with lightning of lamp and welcoming chief with a sapling and address by Principal Dr.Sheeba Valsson. Every Year SDMCA bring out their college magazine, this year the third issue of magazine named “Reflection” was unveiled by the hands of the chief guest, she also congratulated & felicitated the students who participated & won in various competition at university and college level. She addressed the gathering with her interest and admiration of Architects work. Ms Akansha Mishra also address the students and told about her aim of vividly focusing on not just impacting physical development but also transforming the mindsets of people involved with Public Spaces. The Cultural programme then progressed with prize distribution of the rolling trophy which was won by the Green team Symmetry cool .The event continued with students fashion show, dances drama and songs,each one showed full enthusiasm. Finally, the Vote of Thanks was delivered by Ar.Apoorva Dandge, she thanked Dr. Sheeba Valsson for giving her the opportunity to work as a coordinator. She also acknowledged the efforts of the Students, Teachers, and Supporting Staff and thanked the esteemed guests for their precious time and presence. However, everybody enjoyed the cultural function and highly appreciated the organizers. The function revealed many aspects of our culture before the audience.

Workshop on "Architectural Journalism & Criticism" By Ar.Pappal Suneja at Shri Datta Meghe College of Architecture, Nagpur

Date: 4th January 2019

A one day workshop on "Architectural Journalism & Criticism” was conducted by architect Ar. Pappal Suneja on 4th January 2019 for second and Third year students of SDMCA . The workshop lasted for a total of Six hours and equipped the 75 participants that hailed from SDMCA as well as from other colleges to gain the necessary knowledge and skills to explore the realm of Architectural Journalism in India. The sessions were highly interactive, involving the participants to the core. The workshop commenced with an Introduction of Architectural Journalism in India, followed by a discussion on the scope and future of the field in India. The curiosities of the participants regarding pursuing a career in this field as well as studying and preparing for the same were all put to rest by the curator Ar.Pappal Suneja. It was followed up an explanation of Interpretation of Design, its importance and resourcefulness in the field of Architecture. An emphasis was laid on the application of an Architectural Vocabulary, as it enhances one’s presentation skills. The session ended with a vote of Thanks to Ar. Pappal Suneja by Ar.Apoorva Dandge for sharing his knowledge to the students and taking out time from his busy schedule.

Workshop on “Siporex Carving Workshop” by Mr. Vinod Raut at Shri Datta Meghe College of Architecture

Date: 3rd January 2019

Simultaneously for second year and third year students of Shri Datta Meghe College of Architecture a one day Siporex Carving workshop was conducted by Mr .Vinod Raut was organized at the central courtyard of SDMCA, where different carving techniques were taught by the Expert. 50 students participated in the workshop with grat enthusiasm. Students learned the technique of Surface preparation with different tools such as chisel,scalpel,hammer etc. The theme of the Mural was related to abstract shapes. The work of the students was appreciated by the principal Dr.Sheeba Valsson.

“Brick Masonry and structure workshop” by Mr.Vikas Shimpi at Shri Datta Meghe College of Architecture

Date: 3rd & 4th January 2019

A two-day brick masonry & structure skill test development workshop was organized by the Shri Datta Meghe College of Architecture, Nagpur on 3rd & 4th January 2019 for first year second semester students. The total number of participants was 80 students and the workshop was conducted by Prof Vikas C Shimpi, ex-faculty, College of Architecture, Nasik. The workshop aimed at giving a hands-on experience to the students by making models with small-scale brick using various construction techniques. Professor Shimpi conceived the idea of teaching these construction techniques by means of small scale bricks and has patent rights on the bricks. He has conducted over 70 workshops across the nation in reputed Architecture colleges. Ar.Apoorva Dandge and Ar.Meeta Khurana played a key role for taking the initiative in organizing this workshop. The students worked in groups to construct models with small-scale bricks. On the first day, Professor Shimpi briefed the students about the composition and proportions of mortar etc. Each group of students constructed small-scale models of different brick structures, including walls with English and Flemish bonds, different types of arches, domes, compound walls, steps, etc. Students learned about different types of materials for building models on the basis of designed sketches/plans for better visualization of actual construction in 3D aspects and use of paper in architectural model making

Costume day &Traditional Day organized at Shri Datta Meghe College of Architecture on

Date: 2nd January 2019.

Shri Datta Meghe College of Architecture, Nagpur celebrated one of the most anticipated day of the year, Traditional Day.The traditional day was held on the 2nd of January 2019 at the SDMCA . Traditional Day is observed as a celebration of India’s diverse culture, and is usually relaxed day at work. Each student came dressed in their best ethnic attires as well as replica of their favorite Architects. Students, teachers and non-teaching staff participated with great ecstasy. To make the traditional day more entertaining various interesting games were arranged for the students such as treasure hunt,. Everyone displayed their various cultures by dressing their best which was a colorful treat to the eyes in itself. Lots of pictures were clicked by everyone to create memories of this beautiful day. The day ended with sandal beats & atmosphere everywhere was of joy and celebration

ANNUAL SPORTS DAY Conducted by Shri Datta Meghe College of Architecture

Date: 31st December 2018.

The much awaited Annual Sports Day was held on Monday 31st December 2018, at SDMP Polytechnique ground YCCE Campus , with great zeal, excitement and frolicsome atmosphere .The students entered into the spirit of the occasion in a grand way with the Campaigning of their team Red-Trio Triangles, Blue-Roof Pitchers, Green-Symmetry Cool, Yellow- High Archers being administered by their team captain. Each Team members decorated their spaces highlighting their team colour. The games started with Relay Race,3 legged race, Box cricket, Musical Chairs for Teachers and ended with the toughest Tug of war amongst all the teams . The Tug-O-War is an event which revolves around sheer strength and the co-ordination of the teams. It had the entire audience enthralled as the Red House pulled away to victory, engaging their muscular strength to the fullest. In the end, despite all odds, the Red House pulled a win. At the end of the day, students departed with a clear smile on their faces. It was a day filled with sportsmanship, enthusiasm and memories to cherish. The principal of this esteemed institution, Dr.Sheeba Valsson along with all the teachers supported the students and the event was successful.

“Paint and Plant” event at Valmikinagar Hindi High School by SDMCA Students and Samprati Volunteers

Date: 26th Day of December 2018

The day one started on 30th December 2018, Sunday with the event named “Paint and Plant” where Shri Datta Meghe College of Architecture, Nagpur student’s along with Samprati volunteer painted the compound wall of VALMIKINAGAR HINDI HIGH SCHOOL” located at Shivaji Nagar Nagpur and also planted saplings in the interior of the school in name of each students. An Memorandum of Understanding (“MoU”) is signed, on 26th Day of December 2018 between Samprati Foundation, Transforming Tomorrows, Today (“Samprati”) having its registered office at Seminary Hills, Nagpur, and Shri Datta Meghe College of Architecture, Nagpur (“SDMCA”) for a period of Five Years. The Samprati Foundation and SDMCA have mutually agreed to undertake Joint Projects for Social Upliftment of the Society. The aim of this transformation shall go beyond just physical transformation and vividly focus on not just impacting physical development but also transforming the mindsets of people involved with such Public Spaces. It all started with a minor paint and plant event which ended with smiles on the faces of students of the school and SDMCA Students.

Breakthrough Workshop- Vision and Mission Setting OF SDMCA

10th and 11th Feb 2018

A two days’ workshop was conducted successfully by Mr. B. Ebenezer, Head- ADCC academy and his team on 10th and 11th Feb 2018 at Shri Datta Meghe College of Architecture for all the teaching and clerical staff of SDMCA.

An Expert Lecture by renowned architect Ar.Sandeep Pathe, was arranged for 2nd year students on 6th Feb. 2018 on “Design Approach to Kindergarden”.

Guest lecture by WIDEA Architects A guest lecture was organized for the 3rd and 2nd year students on 20th February 2018 by WIDEA Architects on “Presentation Skills And Portfolio Presentation”. Wherein the team Sumit Singh, Shubham Bhujade & Jhanu Chanthar.,enlighten students on improving their presentation skills for portfolios.


Expert Lecture By Dr. Pratima Dhoke
The expert lecture on ‘Communication in Buildings’ was delivered by Dr. Pratima Dhoke for the third year students of SDMCA on 7th feb 2018, also she again delivered an expert lecture on ‘Building Automation System (BAS)’ for third year students on 14th feb2018 .

An Expert Lecture by renowned architect Prof.R.G.Bambani , was arranged for 3rd year students on 27th Feb. 2018 on “Ventilation Systems Of Buildings “.

Site visit KIDZEE Kindergarten, Nagpur

The design problem for 2nd semester is to design Kindergarten. For that they have to understand the basic data about Kindergarten like their requirements, Anthropometry data and surrounding, etc. To understand what is Kindergarten a visit was conducted for the 2nd semester students at KIDZEE Kindergarten Nagpur , which would help them in their design project.

Site visit to study Aluminum Sections

Date: 31st January 2018

A site visit to Rakesh trading company , wanadongri hingna was arranged for the 4th semester students,This gave them opportunity to study different aluminium sections and the joinery details. They got firsthand learning experience at on site executed work; they also cleared their doubts regarding the joinery and fixing details of aluminium sections ,They did see the assembling of the different aluminium sections for partitions, and fixing of the panels and glass to the partitions.
